Two of Honolua Surf Co.’s local groms, The Macedo siblings, were on an island tour hopping from Maui to Oahu in one weekend, competing in two contests representing us with great results and with big smiles!

Stop number one, the 10th Annual Ian Walsh Menehune Mayhem competition at Ho’okipa on Maui. Great success was achieved for both Summer and Ocean. Older sis Summer took 1st in the girls 12-13 age group, and younger brother Ocean took 1st in the boys 10-11 age group. A clean sweep for the Macedo’s!

Immediately following the comp, the Macedo’s packed their bags to jump on a flight to Oahu where they would compete in the 2013 Hawaii Regional Championships at Kewalos. Ocean surfed 10 heats in the two days of battle. Finishing 4th in Explorer Mini Groms, 6th in Open Boys (Upper Div.), made the semis in Open Mini Groms AND in the Explorer Menehune (Upper Div.). Ocean’s weekend was capped off with the acceptance of the Keanu Asing Golden Ticket to Nationals! Congrats, Ocean. Keep ripping, bud, and good luck at Nationals!

Summer also continued to earn her competitive stripes by surfing 7 tough heats, two of which she advanced to the next round, one in Open Women’s and the other in the Explorer Women’s division. In 14 & under, she advanced to one repo in Open and placed 4th in Round 1, one spot short of advancing. Ronaldo, their proud Papa, said it was fun but hard work. Congrats to you Summer! Keep up the good work and positive attitude! Those combined with your hard work will pay off. We look forward to your many years of success!

Coming soon! Honolua Surf Co. had the opportunity to catch up with the Macedo’s via Facetime for a fun interview. Check back with us to get to know these fun loving, super groms!

Aloha,

The annual Molokai 2 Oahu World Paddle Championships took place last weekend. The conditions were nice with plenty of swell and wind at the racers back.

Records were broken as Conner Baxter took first place for the second year in a row beating his previous record just ahead of his hero Dave Kalama. For the ladies Talia Ganghini took first place and breaking the womans record as well. Nice!

Dave Boehne teamed up with his good buddy Slater Trout in the team category. It was their first time doing the crossing. They were stoked to finish an impressive 3rd place. Congrats gentleman!

You can see the full results HERE

Big props to all the paddlers on a successful crossing!

Last weekend set off the annual Santa Barbara Downwinder Race, stop #2 on the California Downwind Race Series presented by Honolua.

Heading into the event the conditions looked solid with windy conditions predicted in the 25knot range.

stiff south winds looked promising in the morning

The typical wind pattern in SB is the wind blows early from the south and as the day goes on it shifts throughout the day and turns north in the afternoon. Unfortunately the wind never shifted and the racers were faced with an 11 mile “upwind” grind. Many of the field bowed out at about the half way mark and some racers decided not to race altogether.

Brian Stockdale first SUP to come across the finish

Racers were greeted with some killer food and drinks… Everyone still have a great time and enjoyed the afternoon sunset with friends.

Thank you for those who came out and all the hardcore paddlers that completed the race! You guys are gnarly!

Congrats to Brian Stockdale (ult SUP), Byron Kurt (14′), Drew Kurt (open), Dave Boehne (14′), and Allison Riddle (wms 14) on victories!

Full results coming soon on the SBDW race website
